ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR
Primary Responsibility: Assist Clergy and Parish Council and leaders of Parish ministries by providing support and continuity to existing programs and facilitate the growth of future Parish programs, with a particular emphasis on youth related activities.

Qualifications/Skills
At a minimum, the Activities Director needs to demonstrate the following:

A sense of calling to youth ministry.

Ability to plan, organize, lead and guide complex projects and spontaneous activities related to Parish activities and youth ministries.

Excellent written and communications skills.
-
Ability to work closely with other staff members and develop a support team of volunteers made up of team players.

Knowledge of computer systems, including word processing, electronic communication software, membership software, and financial reporting and accounting software.
-
Computer proficient in Microsoft Office and Publisher.
-
Able to safeguard confidential material.
-
Active in the liturgical life of an Orthodox Christian Church Parish.
-
A bachelor’s degree in a related field from accredited university or college, or equivalent combination of education and youth work experience preferred.

Duties & Responsibilities
-
Provide direct support to Clergy, Parish Council President, and Parish Council Vice President of Activities.
-
Become acquainted with parishioners, group leaders and various ministries as part of a 3-month orientation.
Parish Adult Ministries and Activities
-
Organize at least one adult activity for the Parish each week to possibly include but not limited to crafts, exercise, games, films or other special projects.

Assist Vice President of Activities in planning monthly fellowship activities.

Keep current the master calendar of all Parish events, meetings and activities.
-
Establish event planning checklist and procedures for church activities.
-
Maintain a database of all past activities and the accompanying planning checklists for future reference.

Cultivate and support parishioners to serve as volunteers.
-
Establish a volunteer database and assist group leaders with the orientation and training of volunteers for various programs and ministries.
Parish Youth Ministries and Activities
-
Assist Parish Clergy and youth workers to promote to the youth an active liturgical life, service projects and events of the Parish and local community.

Assist Parish Clergy and Pastoral Assistant in organizing ministries that include but are not limited to: HOPE, JOY, GOYA, YAYP, Dance Ministries and OCF programs.

Participate in Metropolitan or Archdiocesan retreats, rallies, conventions, etc.

Oversee the operation of all athletic programs.

Interface with other Parish ministries dealing with youth.
-
Ensure the proper documentation is acquired and maintained for all young people participating in trips and programs.

Maintain a database of all past activities and the accompanying planning checklists for future reference.
-
Assist the Parish Clergy, Parish Council Treasurer and the Parish Finance Committee with preparing the youth budget and annual goals for the youth ministry.

Maintain a youth worker resource library.
-
Keep abreast of, participate in, and share with youth workers: training opportunities, resources, publications, and programs available through the Metropolis and Archdiocese and other relevant sources.

Work with and meet regularly with Parish Clergy, Pastoral Assistant, the Parish youth ministry team and any youth advisory groups to promote cohesion and coordination in all aspects of youth ministry.

Assist the Clergy, Pastoral Assistant and Cathedral Staff in the planning and execution of vacation bible school (Annunciation Summer Day Camp).

Develop and implement additional youth programs with approval of Clergy.

Maintain active and timely lines of communication with the youth, young adults, their parents and the Parish in general through periodical newsletters or inserts in the Parish’s established forms of communication, through phone calls, through email, website and social media.

Recruit parents and appropriate adults to serve as chaperones and as youth workers with the approval of the Parish Clergy.

Recruit and train youth workers.

Keep confidential sensitive communications with Clergy, Pastoral Assistant, Parish Council and Parish Administrator.

Meet with Parish Clergy before and after all youth activities/programs.

Provide regular reports to Parish Clergy.

Provide monthly written reports to Parish Council, and attend Parish Council meetings as requested.

Serve as ex-officio member of the EHCYD committee.
