FOCUS North America is a national, faith-based non-profit organization that provides sustainable services to the homeless and working poor of America. Through targeted feeding, job-creation, housing, and community distribution programs, FOCUS seeks to transform people’s lives, moving them from dependency to self-sufficiency. One of FOCUS’ key activities is supplying school-aged children with nutritious meals over the summer, a time when they typically lack regular access to food.

Summary
This internship will provide practical, hands-on project management training and skills development in the context of a multi-state community engagement and distribution program targeting feeding of food insecure children. This is a high-level internship that requires a high-performance and driven individual who is seeking to gain a deep understanding of community and volunteer engagement, as well as federally-mandated social services framework. Qualified candidates who are interested in domestic or international social services, social entrepreneurship, or community development programs are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
The intern is responsible for supporting the various needs of a nationally-implemented community engagement and feeding program including: engaging local faith-based communities and volunteers, managing volunteer engagement and participation in FOCUS program activities, keeping detailed distribution records of goods/items delivered to beneficiaries, communicating with local government officials to ensure timely receipt and delivery of goods/items delivered, engaging local volunteers to support fundraising events and activities. The FOCUS North America Program Intern reports to the Operations Manager.
Specific Responsibilities are not limited to, but will include:
- Support Operations Manager in implementation of a national community engagement and feeding program.
- Assist with volunteer coordination and engagement.
- Maintain detailed distribution records for goods/items given to program beneficiaries.
- Participate in acquiring beneficiary profiles and preparation of public relation materials.
- Periodically visit program areas of operation, nationwide.
- Assess and review program status on a periodic basis with FOCUS national staff.
- Assist with planning and preparing fundraising events and activities.
- Perform other duties as required.
